It’s the Final Stretch: Style, Music, and Procrastination Activities to Get You Through Finals

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to start buckling down and preparing for finals.  At BC, we typically do this by rolling out of bed, grabbing a coffee and some snacks, holing up in the library, leaving late, and getting a few hours of sleep, and repeating…up until we finish that last exam and can head home for some much needed R&R.

Sadly, this means that during the month of December we spend even less time on ourselves than usual, sporting the I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-really-don’t-care-what-I-look-like look, feeling tired and crumby, and letting our stress and crankiness get the best of us.  Not good.

The solution?  A comfy-chic wardrobe, some great study music, and some easy, quick activities that will help you de-stress and give you the study break you deserve.

When You Look Good, You Feel Good: The Wardrobe

The essentials: black leggings, cute boots, a big comfy sweater, and a scarf.

Throwing these on is just as easy as the sweats, but much cuter, and more comfortable.  Layer a plain white tee under the sweater, so if you get too hot in the boiling atmosphere that is O’Neill, you can take it off and stay cool and chic.  This season is all about big, chunky wool sweaters and patterned ski sweaters, so aim for something that screams “I’m cozy!” and you’ll be good to go.  No time to wash your hair?  Put it in a quick messy braid or a loose bun on top of your head.

An Atmospheric Balance: The Music

Okay, so you have your usual study play list that you listen to religiously when preparing for finals, but how about a change of pace?  New music can give you a new energy and approach to studying that might just be the extra kick that you need.  Not sure what to put on it?  No worries.  Check out StereoMood (http://www.stereomood.com) for some amazing play lists for each and every mood that you can imagine.  It free and unlimited with no commercials, and most of the music on the site is not widely known so it gives you a great chance to discover something new!

Procrastination Station: The Study Breaks

And you’ve hit the wall.  No matter how hard you try, you can’t absorb any more information, and sitting in the library is driving you crazy.  So what do you do?  Check Facebook?  Tweet about your frustrations?  Bang your head against a wall?  Nope.  Go to yoga, update your Pinterest, bake something yummy, or do anything else creative that you enjoy and that gives you a release from stress.

I’m going to have to get back to my own study session now (yes, this was my sanity-saving study break), but good luck prepping for finals.  We’re so close…
